Any one have any good suggestions on a cheap rifle hard case just for transport purposes. Pretty much as cheap as possible for a rifle around 40". thanks

Re: Cheap Rifle Hard Case

How "cheap" are you wanting to go (or asked another way...do you have a budget in mind)? Also, by "transport purposes," are you talking riding in the car/truck to and from the range or airline, etc. travel?

There are all sorts of cheap plastic cases out there, including your basic wally world, k-mart, cosco, etc. $14-15 units made by plano, outers, etc., etc. I wouldn't generally trust them for any sort of durability/strength/protection with a high-dollar precision rifle, but for riding around in the trunk of your vehicle on a carpeted interior floor...I don't know that it really matters all that much and that's about as cheap as it gets for hard cases. Frankly, a soft case would likely get the job done ok if that's all the transporting you'll need to do.

cheap as it as cheap as possible without losing integrity. it would be used for one time transport via ups with a cardboard box covering it.

hhmmm didnt even think of walmart, may want check it out just to see

I have shipped rifles that way in the past. Best thing you can do if going that route is: 1) find a cardboard box that is a little bigger than the plastic rifle case; 2) do a layer (or more) of bubble wrap around the plastic case to give you a little more impact protection; and 3) don't get cheap on the insurance when sending it (whether UPS, FedEx, USPS, etc.).

I still have the 30 dollar plastic Academy specials that I got 5-10 years ago...

Go to Wallmart, Academy, Gander Mountain, Target etc...just find a cheapie and go with it.

Now if you're expecting it to last more than a season or two, try the Plano All Weather...about 100 bucks but well worth it.
