Re: chest rig which one.
Wow, depends a lot on what you are planning to do!
If you are going to be running it over body armor, I hate a separate chest rig over that. I just got some shingles for M4 mags, some for pistol mags, etc. Most of the extra shit that people put all over their gear I choose to put on my pack... basically just keep the gear for all things relating to a gun fight.
The only "chest rig" I have anymore is one from Tac Ready, although I'm not sure if he makes it anymore or not. This thing is fucking awesome! It's got pouches for AICS mags, Kestrel, whatever plus a little molle for whatever else you want/need to add. That is my precision rifle set up, the other is obviously designed more for the M4 & it's up close and personal type of work.
If you indicated what your needs were, we could better help. Good luck.
A couple of side notes that I thought I'd add. When I was in Iraq, I carried a LOT of fucking magazines... too many on my person. Now I carry 6 on my body armor with another 4-6 easily accessible on my pack. I carry 4 pistol magazines, but honestly, I think that's probably too many... I just have them & they don't take up much space.
Also kind of related & keep in mind that this is just one man's opinion, but no drop holster & drop leg pouches and all that bullshit. Keep your stuff up top, you'll thank me if you have to do any running or crawling. I just run a Bladetech holster on my belt... probably not as scary as someone all tac'ed up with shit all over them but it works well for me.
