cheers,

planning if I should start building repeater 375CT.
action lenght is problem, all suitables tend to be ment for 50BMGs here in europe. Too heavy for me.

Would be nice to hear what actions guys are using in US and GB?
Barrell twist and 375 reamer (chamber) comments are mostly appericiated as well

TIA

Re: CheyTac build -actions and reamers?

JL,

Hola my Finland pal!!! How has everything been going in your part of world?

Man you should throw out that idea of a repeater and just go with single shot rifle. I say that for the following reasons:

1. Every shot you take is better to have its own firing solution instead of follow up shots.
1A. With the TOF and time it takes to call the miss then TOF again for follow up shot the conditions HAVE changed so now the follow up shot is off..then cycle continues lol

2. With repeaters people are more prone to ejecting one round and chambering another immediately and with the ELR that leads to preheating the round while you and your spotters work out firing solution. Now with loaded round has sat in chamber for couple minutes so when you do fire it the MV is going to be faster than what your firing solution used.

3. You do not have the magazine issues associated with such rounds.

Here is my build list that I would suggest to you in order of preferance lol

1. Barnard P-Chey Action
2. Lawton 8000 series Action
3. BAT Machine Action

FWIW-- I not sure of your timeframe but there will be a new "system" out within couple months HOPEFULLY!!! That I am choosing over all the above haha... I will send you SMS.

Tell your family and MSA I said Hello

Can you give any more details about this new "system". Is it a new action, stock, barrel/bullet technology, and/or optic?

Just when I had settled on a P-Chey action in Mcrees stock for my future build, you come up with a newer and better option.

If it's so much better, I probably don't want to see the price tag.

Re: CheyTac build -actions and reamers?

New switch barrel action system. No action wrench needed, can do at range or field.

Runngun you components you settled on are top knotch!!! Just I looking to downsize in number of different configurations I have and that is why I liking upcoming action system.

Thanks

Re: CheyTac build -actions and reamers?

Ok thanks for replys.

I wonder would any Lapua Magnum action be long enough for single-shot CT?
Base dia would be only about 1mm / 0,04" bigger. Case lenght difference is 2,724" vs 3,04".

One question I was originally going to ask was barrel life in smaller CT:s.
They seem to make even .338 versions (338 Snipe-Tac, 338/408 Baer) , so I´d imagine that bigger 375 isnt horrible barrel burner is it?

Cheers Later!
I agree about single shot rifle at ERL, but I´d probably shoot in sniper comps too with same system -thats reason for magazine option. For size and balance bullpup would be good. After testing DSA 338 other rifles feel bit clumsy...

Tried to call You in another day btw -You know reason now...lol

Re: CheyTac build -actions and reamers?

JL,

I am OCONUS at the moment is the reason I didnt get your call..sorry bout that.

Now back to your questions lol...
There is a gentleman over on your side of the big pond that built a 408CT on an RPA 338LM Rangemaster rifle. IIRC he had the help from former RPA gunsmiths. Gentlemans name that had rifle built is Rob and his call sign on the hide is jaeger408 but last communication I got from him was a few months ago right before he was deploying to A-Stan.

I am building a short barrel 375 at this moment, I am going to use a faster twist rate than normal so I can make up some of the stabilization due to loose of MV so instead of being a 2700m rifle it will more than likely be limited to 2000m..will have to see once all is said and done haha.

BTW the normal 375 twist rate is 11.5 for the 350gr solids we have over here. And the 375 is actually quite good on barrel life so no worries needed there.

Cheers brother!!!

Re: CheyTac build -actions and reamers?

Ok- have a safe trip there. Will talk more when You get back.

Have tried RPA Rangemaster short action in 6.5x47 Lapua. Teammate shooted it in snipercomp this summer. Stout action, really solid and good finishing.

Looked another 375CT thread, seems that typical actions w/barrel weight 11 lbs. Modified f.e. Sako 338 action as an single shooter would at least save weight a lot. Nice feature for rifle that I like actually carry.

But about 338CT:s -there would be at least lots of bullets available then. Bud makes excellent 338 solids here...makes me wonder how long grooves would last with such down-necking....

about 700-1k rounds would be the max
