Just saw this story and thought to myself...Doesn't that state/city have some of the strictest gun laws in the nation? Looks like gun control is working out for them real well. Way to rationalize the situation; make something MORE illegal than it already is instead of finding the root of the problem.

<span style="font-style: italic">Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Violence: Helping Isn't "Snitching"</span>

After a particularly violent weekend in Chicago, Mayor Rahm Emanuel has a message for anyone involved in the shootings that left nine people killed and 37 injured: Stop the culture of silence.

"I'd like to remind everybody that it also requires a community to step up," Emanuel said Monday at an unrelated press conference. "You're not a snitch, you have a role in community policing."

The "s" word is a particularly powerful one in Chicago.

Last year a Chicago mother was arrested after she allegedly drove her son and an accomplice to shoot a person they believed was a snitch. The year before a dying 17-year-old took the name of his killer to the grave.

"I know," Robert Tate reportedly said when asked if he knew who shot him in the chest, "but I ain't telling you."

Last week eight people were struck in a drive-by shooting at 79th Street and South Essex Avenue, and Community activist Andrew Holmes said some of them reportedly weren't cooperating with police.

"The persons have been struck by gunfire, they need to step up and speak up for us," Holmes told NBC Chicago. "Nine times out of 10, they knew who was firing the shot at them."

Emanuel's message is one that Chicago has heard before. Former Mayor Richard Daley said it too -- over and over again.

Still Chicago's summer violent streak started again Memorial Day weekend when more than 40 people were shot. This past weekend's total nearly matched that.

Emanuel said police have moved in more officers, removed guns and drugs off the street, and over the weekend, arrested 307 people and confiscated more than 100 weapons during several drug busts across the city.

"We can keep doing that," he said, "<span style="color: #FF0000">but we have to pass stronger gun laws in this state. We're not talking about repealing conceal carry but making sure we have a tougher set of laws dealing with assault weapons and other types of guns</span>."

After concentrating on Englewood, Woodlawn, South Shore and East Garfield Park, Emanuel said that 40 percent of the shootings happened in another area.

"We now have to deal with what's happening in Grand Crossing over the weekend, and we will do that."

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, but I'd be willing to bet the farm that not one of those shooters last week end had a CC permit.

Re: Chicago wants to make guns MORE illegal...

It's Rahm Emanuel. It's all bullshit.

Rest assured there will be nothing done about the real source of the problem: The multitudes of thug ignorami who are the life's blood of big city politicians across the nation.

Without the credulous savages drinking freely from the overflowing cup of horse shit they have been cultivated to enjoy, these politicians would actually have to accomplish something in order to prosper.

Besides create more savages that is.

Re: Chicago wants to make guns MORE illegal...

It is real easy...the solution to all those problems is this: STOP all welfare and public assistance of any kind. Allow constitutional carry. Then step back and watch it sort out.

When the gang bangers kill each other off and the rest have to choose between sitting on their ass in the projects and going hungry or actually getting a job and working like the rest of us, then they won't have time for all that nonsense.

We the taxpayers have subsidized their lawlessness and bad behavior. We make their lifestyle feasible, and then provide them an defenseless victim zone to boot. How does the saying go? Idle hands are the devil's playground.

Perfect!!

But I wonder what the kind hearted type would say of this idea, surely they would find it unsuitable for a modern nation.

Re: Chicago wants to make guns MORE illegal...

I see gun controll is working in Chitcago and also New York City

Re: Chicago wants to make guns MORE illegal...

If hey want gun control they should put in more shooting ranges.

If they want criminal controll they just need to make the crime not worth it by strict punishment. How about stealing, first offence you loose a hand.. Drugs on th streets, do it like china. Your caught, your shot on the spot. Unfair? I don't think it's any more unfair than making everyone else that are trying to live a good life pay for criminals mistakes constantly be it loosing rights or more taxes. I'm willing to bet that most gun crimes involve a primary criminal activity ( like drugs) and most gun crimes are secondary to those. Remove the problem and the issues from said problem go away.

Was Rahm quoted while at the "Man Country" club?

Re: Chicago wants to make guns MORE illegal...

Best solution would be to make chicago its own state so they can bulldoze the whole city into the lake then start over. We will never see cc here because of chicago hopefully in two years ill be in AZ ive always wanted to buy a tax stamp or two!
