Evidently, there's a Mexico where people aren't routinely shot, stabbed, hung off bridge overpasses, burned alive, dumped in vats of acid, and otherwise spread to the winds like three-day-old, dried-out powdery dog shit.

Who knew?

“ we moved here to escape US politics”

What fucking pussies...yes let’s leave a country where we can actually vote in our elections because I’m butthurt my person didn’t win..... and move to a country where the elections are decided through drug cartel corruption and intimidation.

Good riddance, we don’t need your fucking Commie ass...GTFO and don’t come crawling back when the drug cartels threaten to manually extract your teeth

Of course, we could really jack them up and structure something painfully punishing on exported DMEs. Life without reasonable Jazzy Power Chairs, CPAP supplies, cheap incontinence products? Heaven forbid!

There are other reasons to retire there. As the one guy said, they put a lot of importance on 'family' and tend to respect the elders (me:love:). I had planned to retire to Oaxaca, much to the south and a better climate but the Cartels kind of fucked up that plan. Guadalajara is much easier to access and large enough to have pesos to deal with the problem. I spent some time around Lake Chapala, beautiful, but like most water in Mexico, polluted.

Had some guys that were family from the eastern coast on a crew that spoke fair English and when asked if they learned it to come here for work they said no. They learned English so they could do jobs catering to retirees from the states there trying to stretch their income for more than what they could have in the states. Old idea and not necessarily based on ideology. Not a choice that I would make as this is my home and always will be?

There are quite a lot of older folks from many western countries including the USA who retire abroad for purely economic reasons rather than lead low income unfulfilling lives here. Ecuador is another place many go as Mexico is a bit past it's prime.

For the same price you could be living in a horrible assisted living concentration camp type place, being mistreated and bored to death, you could have a nice house out in the country with your own cook/maid, your own gardener/physical assistant/driver, and a doctor on call with daily visits from a well trained nurse.

For what your social security / national insurance / retirement plan pays out that would let you live in a little apartment in a bad part of town in your home country, you could have a nice little house in the beautiful countryside and a couple servants in a foreign country.
(Just try to pick one that won't turn into a hell hole before you die).

If you paid in all your life, then you should be free to spend your payments as you wish in places that give you the best value for your money.
