Anyone ever used the Brownells stuff for removing chrome?

Assuming you mean hard chrome...

Muriatic acid will take it off and it's easy to find local.

Sorry, yes, it is hard chromed. It is an especially wonderful Luger that was a bring back turned trophy and hard chromed.
It is all numbers matching and and a late WW1, great shooter, but the chrome is poorly done and flaking and I want to restore it (as much as possible.)

Do you have any pictures?

Hard chrome doesn't usually flake. It could be nickel chrome, it looks like hard chrome but not nearly as durable.

Well, come to think of it I suppose it could be. I'll try to get some pics soon, it is at home in the safe.
I suppose if it is nickeled then it will be more of a PITA?

Not really, it just requires a different acid.
