Today I was doing load testing for my 223 at the range, and something weird happened. My CED m2 didn't show my velocities.

I was shooting on a bright sunny day at 2pm. I know I have read that overly bright days can mess with the chrono, but I have used it many times on days just as bright, and have chrono'd smaller bullets like a 22lr.

Could it just be the perfect combination of sun/type of day/size and velocity of the small bullets that made this happen?

The only other thing that I can think of is that its possible I reversed the start and stop cords. I always check it when I put it in, to confirm, however I also usually double check it after installation and today I do not believe I do. This is a small chance that this happened, but if there is no other reason then it has to be...

Could have been where the shadows fell. There are times that I've had to shift the bullet either over or down to get a reading if I've been shooting for a while.

A freind has one of these, experienced the same problem.
I think it is more a time of day, angle of sun to shooting dircetion???

We put paper or cardboard on the sun's side, with duct tape of course, redneck as hell, but it worked.
Just seemed like too much sun vapor locked the thing.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, next time I will put some cardboard around the sun screens.

Have you guys ever tried black sharpy on the bullets, or would that not make a difference?

Haven't tried that, but I've heard it helps.

I also have a CED M2, and have found it really only works from late spring through early-mid fall. It straight up WILL NOT work in the winter.

My theory is the Sun's lower angle in the sky. Just a theory.
