I finally purchased a chronograph and was wondering what type of support most of you use. Tripod, table, etc?

I changed mine a bit. I made a loop on the center support and made it so I can use a long spike and bunji cord and tie it down when on uneven ground or windy conditions.

The last time I was at Wally World they had some El-Cheapo tripods with an eye type piece on the bottom of the center upright that goes down through the whole stand. I is the cover for the vertical adjustment that has the crank on it. Look at this photo: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=11085679 That isn't EXACTLY like mine. But you should get the idea from that. Lowe's or Home Depot both stock 10" spikes. You can either weld up a couple of washers to make a ring for the spike. Or when I first decided to tie mine down I was at a match and used a piece of solid electrical wire leftover from working on a house. A short piece of bunji cord and some bailing twine and it's fixed on the spot. But if you have the time and shop skills you can make it a lot better looking than that first one I cobbled up.
The last ones I did were fender washers with heavy (3/16") stainless steel welding filler wire bent in a half circle and heli-arced to the edges of one of the washers. If you pull the bunji cord too tight the spike can start to back out of the ground. I was able to locate some 1/4" bunji material at a hiking / back packing shop. A few feet of that and a home made tent peg adjuster and it works just fine.

Hey GardDog, I tried the cheepo tripods and did not like them. I ended up building my stand.I welded a piece of 1 inch sq tubing to the center of a disc blade.A piece of 3/4 inch sq tubing slides down into this.A set screw lets me adjust it and lock it in place. A piece of flat bar welded on top with a couple of conduit clamps hold the bar with the sky screens.This works good for me! Hope it helps, if interested, I will try to post pics. Lightman
