Why is it, when I click on a thread, it takes me either to the middle or bottom of the page or if it is multiple page it will take me to the last page?

It takes you to the last portion of the thread that is "unread" to you. The unread portion of the thread includes any new posts since the last time you opened up that forum in your previous session of your web browser.
