Looking for some light shooting loads for cmp match on 5/12. has anyone had any experience shooting 120/5 speer TNT out of a M 1 Garand, or sierra 125grn Pro Hunters. rumor has it that these are good shooting light recoil loads others have been shooting at these matches. and I’m looking for some load data with IMR 4895 and OAL.

Thanks

200 yards doesn't need much in regards to bullet weight. 45-50 grns of 4895 would work good with the bullets you listed. As said, it doesn't take much. I would go as light as possible and still work the action, then tweak for accuracy.

Here is some groups for accuracy by different bullet weights from Capt. Edward Crossman's "Book of the Springfield".

Just make sure there is enough case neck to hold the bullet under recoil and it fits (the latter isn't too much of a problem with the lighter bullets). Then tweak for accuracy.

100 and 200 reduced matches........110gr Hornady spire point (or 125gr TNT's) and 49grs of h4895 will put a smile on your face. My 03a3 does NOT like this load or any of the lighter loads. Shoots good in the 168gr-175gr range with H4895.

I just shot The Eastern Games at Camp Butner. I knew it was going to be windy so I opted for my "go to" load of 168gr amax, 46.5gr H4895, CCI200, R/P brass@ 3.285" oal. Shot a 284 (for Gold) with that load. I LOVE shooting my M1........

Keith, I'm working up a load now for the 03A3, going to do a second round of 44.7, 45, 45.3 and 45.5. This is with LC/H4895 and the 168SMK. Could you advise on the charge range for a Garand safe load using H4895 150 and 168's? LC and Commercial brass.
I think I might try the 150's in the Garand, heard the Hornady 3037 shoots great?
I did a few for the A3 using commercial brass and stopped at 46.5, primers started to flatten, thought it was strange that I had no issues at 45.5 and the LC brass.

I personally don't shoot the 150's. I have a bunch of the Nosler 155's and just couldn't get them to shoot in the Garand or 03a3. I'm probably one of the few that don't like them. I shoot 46.5ges of h4895 with the 168gr amax's and 168gr Hornady Match bullets. Definitely Garand safe. I know guys that shoot from 45-46.5grs of it with the 168's with good results.

I had a bunch of 175mk's that I loaded with 46grs of H4895. At 200yds they have the same POI that my 168gr/46.5grs load does. Beyond that I have no idea how they match up.
