Anybody going to be watching the special on NBC tonight regarding the safety issues on the remington 700? Its funny that I have never heard of this until recently. Is there really a bad issue with them? I just purchased a remington 700 police.

look around a bit. i am sure there are already several threads on this exact topic on this bulletin board and just about every other firearm related bulletin boards.

sure, if you put no independent thought into it, it may seem shocking. that is exactly what cnbc intended. they had absolutely no intention of anything other than making remington look bad.

ask yourself this:

how many other manufacture of bolt action rifles were looked into to see if they were having a similar percentage of complaints?

did they ever mention if these rifles were box-stock or modified?

did they mention what exactly the leo's were manipulating to cause the issue they were having? did they mention that they DID pull the trigger just before touching the bolt causing the fire?

how many times have you seen a remington go off without the trigger being pulled?

they showed one of the guys in the story go and buy a remington 700. what was the outcome of that? did it go off all by itself without the trigger being pulled?

All Remington 700's produced after 2007 have the improved X Mark Pro trigger.

If your rifle has an X Mark Pro trigger you should be GTG. To determine if your Remington 700 has the Walker firing mechanism or the X-Mark Pro, look at the trigger itself. If the trigger has grooves, it is a Walker. If it is smooth, it is an X-Mark Pro.

Re: CNBC Remington 700 Misfire Special

thanks for the advice about the trigger.

I guess what is most disturbing is that the problem was identified a long time ago and remington chose not to correct it due to budget issues. It can be argued all day that this type of misfire may or may not be happening with other manufactures or after modification etc. What can not be argued is that remington was made aware of the issue and decided not to take action.

PS:

I have 3 remingtons and have not had a problem. But I will definitely do more research before purchasing my next firearm, regardless of the brand.

Don't drink the kool aid, their is nothing wrong with Remington. Check out their responses, do your own research. The story was very manipulated to get people to demand the government step in and enforce more regulations on the gun industry.

are you sure you aren't going to let some anti-gun media outlet do the research for you?

has it ever been PROVEN, by remington or an accusing party, that unmolested remington triggers have gone off without the triggers being pulled? remington was made aware and they acknowledged there was a problem of people complaining of this happening but did they acknowledge that it is a real, physical problem with the trigger? what about all other manufactures? do they or do they not have similar claims against them? if they do have similar complaints, when compared to the number of rifles out there, is the percentage similar to remington?

Re: CNBC Remington 700 Misfire Special

my opinion is that they only fuck up if they are dicked with improproperly. i own numerous ( 10 plus ) remington 700's and have had only one slam fire. it was because i was messing with a trigger when i didnt know better. since then.i have learned.....
