I am loading for a remi 700p 338LM. It is brand new and I'm using new Hornady brass with 250 grain scenars. Lapua recommends a COL of 3.681 but I can't get it to 3.681 with the 250 grain scenar sitting on the lands. I am getting 3.655. Should I hold of the lands .020 or be in the lands? Any thoughts or input on this?

Load some rounds .030" off, .015" off, 005" off, touching, and .005" into the lands and you tell us.

I don't know how long your mag box is, but I have to load to fit my Sako box and that's about 3.675" roughly. If I want to single load, I can go longer, obviously, but it shoots fine doing it this way.

Re: COL question

Whenever you load "jammed" into the lands for the first time I would start with a reduced load. When you load "jammed" you're going to build more pressure or at the least it's going to change the pressure curve.
