So I have a question, my friend asked me this but I didn't know the answer.

He lives in NJ (I feel sorry for him because I got out) and has an AR-15 that has a "collapsible" stock which is pinned extended because of NJ law. He wants to put the Magpul PRS on it and wants to know if he needs to swap anything out. I'm pretty sure he needs a different spring but I'm not 100% sure.

So I defer to you guys. Thanks for the help

Re: Collapsable stock to PRS help

He'll need:

1) a carbine spanner wrench (to remove the castle nut that affixes the carbine buffer tube to the lower...they are available as JUST the spanner, or they can be found on some AR-15 type multi-tools);

2) use tool to remove the complete carbine stock/buffer tube/buffer/spring/castle nut/endplate;

3) screw on a rifle-length receiver extension and torque down (buffer tube...as seen here: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/489724/dpms-receiver-extension-buffer-tube-ar-15-a1-a2-stock );

4) a rifle-length buffer spring (as seen here: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/191371/dpms-buffer-spring-ar-15-rifle ); and

5) a rifle-length buffer (as seen here: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/910805/dpms-buffer-ar-15-rifle );.

Additionally...he'll need the PRS of course. The PRS comes with the buttstock screw that is specific to the PRS so no need to buy a screw.

Don't forget to watch out for the rear detent spring when he pulls off the back plate for the carbine buffer tube. It will shoot out and be lost if your not careful.

Usually under the refrigerator, even though my work bench is several steps down in the garage and the laundy romm is in between the kitchen and workbench.
