Does anyone know of anyone who color anodizes AR receivers? I've seen painted before. But was thinking bright red anodized, knurled hand guard, upper and lower in red, black stock, grip, and scope.

Any anodizing place can do different colors. MIL-A-8625 allows for color anodizing. However, if you leave your lower, the anodizer would need to have a gunsmithing FFL.

Most anodizing places will charge you a lot charge, ~$100.

Re: Color anodizing, research for now.

I figured that about the FFL. I am hoping if I ask a few places I'll find either an FFL that does it or someone who has ordered a custom color from someplace.

Very true.

I have anodized lots of m/c parts. I never did colors because they were not hard anodized...

If you want colors with a durable finish, I would cerakote and bake..

Re: Color anodizing, research for now.

If your parts are 7075 forget it and get some paint. Trust me on this one, Even with soft coat its going to be a crap shoot. You will get a variation of the color you want unless you get real lucky. If you have other parts to do that are 6061 the different metals will not match. Regardless of what the anodizers tell you, there is a good possibility that your parts will end up scrap before they get the color perfect.

Paint it, its more durable than soft coat anyway...

+1 on Cerakote. This way you can have different materials such as steels and plastics match your receivers too. Also, if you decide to have other items coated at a later time it will be the same color too. I have some bright red that would probably work well for what you are looking for.

I didn't even think about that. Everything I have had done was 6061, my anodizer wouldn't even do 7075. Look for another finish.

you can make 6000 series aluminum as pretty as you want in soft coat. 7000 is a different animal and its challenging enough to get black consistent.
You really have nothing to loose i guess, if it doesn't turn out the way you want you can always paint it.

I strongly advise hard coat for the upper because the bolt riding inside.
