After posting about the Sig 1911 came to the clusion that I wouldnt be getting one of those anytime soon. Really not ready to spend a 1000 for a 1911 that could be good or could have all the issues in the other post. So now its between the Colt XSE series and a SA operator MC. There is about a 400 dollar difference with the SA being the more pricy one. Would like to know how they compare to the SA or any other 1911 out there in the same price range. Any known issues (did a search with neg results of known issues) that havent been expressed in any kind of review or personal experience. Everything I have read on them they are outstanding pistol and live up to the Colt standard for 1911. TIA for the info.

I've got a friend who has an XSE Commander Lightweight that he uses for carry. He hasn't had any issues with it running everything from HP to his reloads. The only negative that I can think of is that the edges were a little sharp out of the box, but he had the gun dehorned just after he got it. I don't think you'll find too many issues with the XSE.

Get an STI Spartan unless it severely lacks in some area that matters to you.

The fit is very impressive for the money.

I had a Combat Elite (apart of the XSE series)

Not impressed. Had a rear sight insert fall out prior to 200 rounds. Overal fitting of parts was crap (trigger, thumb saftey and beavertail) The inside of the frame rails marred up the barrel. Trigger broke clean but a little heavy. The pistol looked good and was reliable but not that good of quality.

I was more impressed with a Taurus 1911 that I used to own. I would take any STI or Springfield over that Colt.

Re: Colt 1911 XSE series good, bad, or ugly?

I bought the 08011XSE model in Nov 2010. It has 1100rds through it now.

Looks like this one:

Combat Elite 08011

I think it's very comparable to my Springfield Loaded Operator. NOT as tight as my Springfield TRP. The Colt seemed to take about 150-200 more rounds before it seemed broken-in. I'm pretty happy with it, but it's also just a play-gun, *NOT* for duty use or even CCW.

The Colt does rattle a bit more than any of the Springfield 1911's. I wouldn't say that is a bad thing, but certainly noticed.

If it's for DUTY use, I'd get a S.A., if it's for fun, get what suits your fancy.

Either way, it'll be fun!

My Combat Elite has been absolutely flawless through about 1500 rounds now. Not a single FTE, FTF, nothing.

I changed out the beavertail, because I like a palmswell. The trigger is acceptable for a carry gun. Everyone has had an issue with the rear sight coming loose; nothing loctite won't fix.

The edges are a little sharp, but I'll get that fixed, someday.

All of the above and I believe the barrel hood is narrower as well. Had one and it was OK at best. I really like my 1991A1 though. The finish was better on the enhanced model but whoopty doo...

Bought my brother an XS, not XSE, Commander back in 2001. Great pistol. I got myself a Kimber Gold Match at the same time. I liked them both and would gladly have either.
