Sidearms & Scatterguns Colt Gold Cup NM

Depends on condition, IMO.
I like em both, and own both currently.
I'd expect the Colt to have a better trigger (unless some one's messed it up with do-it-yourself-customizing).
If your Hi Power is an older Belgian made, and Belgian assembled, I'd have to think about it some before trading.
But the Hi Power happens to be from the years made in japan, or one of the later ones assembled in portugal, I'd trade for the gold cup if the Colt seems to be in useful condition.

I would be hard pressed not to trade for the Colt unless you have an attachment to the hi-power. Here is my reasoning: IMO, and again, this is my opinion, Hi-Powers have a MUCH more limited audience than 1911's, especially Colts and especially Gold Cups. I think every gun guy knows and wouldnt mind owning a 1911, I think most non gun guys know what a 1911 is and wouldnt mind owning one. Hi-powers though are a different audience that is smaller I think. If you say ".45" a 1911 pops into peoples minds. If you say 9mm, a Glock pops into peoples minds, not a Hi-Power. I am a gun guy and have been offered several hi-powers in the past few years, but for some reason I always shy away from them. If I was offered a Gold Cup for a good price(or fair trade) I would jump on it.

So strictly being able to possibly move the gun later(something I always think about with used guns or with trades) what is the market. 1911 is a better sell down the road than a hi-power, again, my opinion.

As an owner of both, I am in the same position as Diablo, and agree with his assessment. I would have to carefully consider trading a Belgian HP, but would not think twice on a "made in" Japan or Portugal model.

As with any trade, it's based on value (mfg details, condition, emotional attachment)

o Which generation NM? (pre-70, S70, S80, present mfg)
o Which generation HP? (country of origin/mfg/assembly and if Belgian, which SN series, ladder sights?)
o Have either been hacked on / "modified" / "enhanced"?

I have had three really nice custom hi-powers, and traded or sold 'em all. I don't like the way the hi-power trigger resets, as I am simply too used to the 1911 style reset. In time, and with enough practice I am sure I could adapt, but as I prefer the 45acp in any case, there is no need to go to all the work to adapt to a pistol I don't intend to carry anyhow.

But I really do like the overall design of the hi-power..I just don't need one, so I would go for the gold cup.
