Colt HRT 11.5 barrel vs Colt 11.5 Commando barrel

The HRT barrel has a heavy barrel profile as opposed to the Commando's gov profile. The HRT also has a .070" gas hole. Not sure if the Commando is supposed to have a .068" hole or .070". There may be some variations floating around but there is a standard for both.

Thanks for the response... I understand the original commando barrel is not a heavy but govt. Profile.
But now they have a 'commando' that is a heavy barrel for sale on Arms Unlimited and I'm wondering if it's the same as an HRT. I'll send a link.

I'm not sure how to send a link from my phone....I will once I get by a computer.

I think I know which one you're speaking of. If I recall, that one has a larger gas port hole. Something like .072"-.073". If it's the one I'm thinking about, it will likely be overgassed.
I remember because I thought it might be the same HRT's that Shark Arms was selling. It is not.

ETA: I think Shark Arms still has some actual HRT barrels with the proper .070" gas port. Just grab one of those... If you want the low pro gas block pinned, then just shave down the existing a-frame. If that's what you really want, then there is no substitute.

Cheers!

Where did you get your info that the one on arms unlimited is .072 or .073? just wondering....I see one reviewer from a batch of them almost a year ago said they have a .073 but thats just one guy on a review so I dont know whether to take that as 100% accurate.
thanks for your help

I'll look around when I get a chance and see if I can find where I saw that. That was the reason I didn't try one out when they started carrying them.

Also, I spoke with Colt customer service yesterday.....he said they are all the same. When I referred to the HRT one ordered by the FBI he said then I would need to ask the FBI....lol....can you believe that
When you spoke with them, did they confirm the gas port size on the HB ones that they produce for the civilian market; id est, Arms Unlimited]? And yeah, the outliars are going to be the ones that are made via contract for specific groups. Pretty sure there are an ungodly amout of cutdowns floating around with .068" gas port holes, and not just because Bubba got a hold of all of them. ;-)

.068 is probably perfect. .063 makes a nice 12.5, and .058 a nice carbine gas 14.5. Though I won’t have a carbine gas system because I don’t do shorter than 11.5 so everything I have has a longer gas system.
