I got a colt m4 22lr through a charity auction was wondering if I would be able to change out the upper to a 556

I doubt it...On most rifles like that (Colt, Umarex/HK, S&W) they are built around the 22LR platform. Meaning the buffers and spring aren't strong enough to handle 223. Some...I think the S&W M&P have different size pin specifically to prevent you from doing so. I could be wrong. I say buy some bulk packs and have some cheap fun. If not, I have $100 I'll give you for it

Those lowers do not have a buffer and spring. They are blow back 22s. totally different method of operation.

OK that's cool I think ill keep it and just have some fun. From what I found I got it pretty cheap NIB for 400
