Suppressors Compact 1911?

Re: Compact 1911?

I don't have a Springfield, but I've carried 3" 1911s, and they have their strengths and weaknesses. With anything that small, you're going to want to pay more attention to ammo quality, and thoroughly breaking it in and testing for reliability before depending on it for carry. I'm a firm believer in Wilson Combat magazines, or any other high-quality aftermarket mag - it's worth the price.

Personally, I've started to shift towards wanting a longer barrel...I can shoot a 3" 1911 decently, but there's something about the comfort of knowing I can deliver lead precisely when and where I want it that makes me lean towards something a bit more shootable. A 4" Commander-sized 1911 might be a good compromise in this respect.

Re: Compact 1911?

I've always thought a commander slide/officer's (aluminum) frame would be cool. Make it a 9mm with a ramped barrel and I just might buy one.

A 3" barrel is unacceptable to me. My Glock 19 has a 4", anything less than that is not acceptable.

Re: Compact 1911?

I agree.. 4"bbl minimum is my preference on a 1911 but lots of guys don't mind smaller.. for me it's more about balance. The grip for me is where I perfer a more minimal approach as it gets more in the way when sitting for me.

Re: Compact 1911?

My carry gun is a Kimber Ultra. It had some problems when it was new, but they were all coming from the extractor and slide stop, a fullsize with the same parts would have the same problems. It runs like a top now, and has a decent number of rounds through it.

It's funny, that's one of the easiest pistols I've ever seen to shoot well. I have Hogue finger groove grips on it, and it just hits where you look. I ended up loaning out my primary pistol and shooting the Kimber in last year's Practical Marksman Challenge, and finished first for the week and second overall on the pistol portion of the match. (I'll still be carrying a high capacity 9mm this year, though!)

Shoot one if you get the chance, you'll probably like it!

CZ/Dan Wesson just came out with basically that pistol (albeit with bobtailed full-size frame):
