While wandering around the grocery store pushing the buggy, I picked up the latest Guns&Ammo issue. Of particular interest is Nosler's, yes, Nosler's new 26. That's what they call it, the Nosler26. 140gr bullets moving at 3425 (26" barrel) and that's a factory load. Being an afficianado of the 264 Win Mag, I was even MORE interested when I read that the 264 can be re-chambered for the new round.
The parent case is the 7mm RUM. Can we say barrel burnout?

Seriously, I don't believe the 264 was as bad as its reputation as far as barrel burnout is concerned.

I was wondering what I was going to do with that Brux barrel blank. Think I have the answer.

Wowie.

The cartridge is more focused to the hunter that don`t shoot alot. Go ahead and call Brux and order a few more barrels, you will need them. I seen the 26 Nosler at Shot Show few months back. Too much gas in the tank!!

Personally don't get all of this velocity chase, I mean does it take that long to dial a couple more clicks in the high dollar scopes we buy??? By the way I have a 6.5 SAUM being chambered now just to see if the Kool-Aid is all that impressive but it's going to have to really impress me over my 7WSM sending 180's @ 3015 and on my 6th cycle on WW brass and seeing chunks of rock flying @ 1876yds!!! But we will see, as far as barrel life I don't buy a set of tires for any of my vehicles thinking they will last forever, I just want them to perform during their lifespan. It's all relative

It's no competition to the 4S at all. The nosler was designed for a completely different purpose. I'm sure one could load the nosler down to 264 velocity to achieve reasonable bbl life but that's kinda missing the point/intent of the cartridge. Bore life isn't everything & usually not even on the table when I spec a new build, frankly put, I don't give a shit. Would it be usable as a comp/tac cartridge? Hells no. Then again, that isn't what it was designed for. Kinda like getting all pissy when the lumber you bought won't fit in your Ferrari.... Who knew a Ferrari wasn't designed to haul lumber? I mean, WTF over?

End rant :p

On a more serious note: For the dedicated long range hunter, it has merit; albeit the 160 matrix VLD is far more suited to this cartridge than the 129 ABLR (wtf were they thinking?).... Some H-1000 or probably Retumbo & a 160 Matrix (G1= .680-.700) with sane pressure should see a lifetime of hunting & a chit load of smiles. I also see the advertising as a bunch of Hyperbole... "Flat to 415" no shit, 300 yd zero... yay.. yawn.... (twirls finger in the air)...

Is it cool? I think so. Would I own one? If you gave it to me... Do I consider myself an advocate? Meh.... possibly, just cause it's fairly cool. But time will tell if the new car smell will wear off with the cartridge dying in obscurity....
