Is it possible to determine if a given load will completely burn up the powder in a certain barrel length?
I have a bolt gun in .223 Rem. with a 16" 1/9" twist barrel. I plan on loading Varget and 69gr. SMK's 'cause I have tons of them. The reloading data I have uses 24" test barrels. Charge weights vary from approx. 21gr. to 26gr. I want to push these hard because I know they won't ever get near the published velocity because of my short tube. Will all the powder get burned before the bullet leaves the muzzle? How will I know? I'm shooting this rifle suppressed. Is there a formula for burn rates and barrel length?
Just wondering if with this 69gr. bullet I could/should switch to something a bit faster burning in light of the short barrel?
