I have used the search engine on this subject with no success, so I thought I would take a chance and ask anyway. I see a lot of people using the giuard trimmers, which I can't afford right now, so I was wandering if anyone was using the rcbs pro power trimmer and what your opinion of them are. Thankyou for any input.

Re: considering RCBS pro power trimmer

I have used my friends RCBS Trim Pro Power Case Trimmer with a 3-way cutter head...it works slick. Get the 3-way cutter head and adjust it carefully and it will do a nice job of deburring the case mouth both inside and out.

If I was going to buy my own I would probable go with the the Giraud based on a great reputation. At list price the Giraud is $425 and the RCBS with the 3-way cutter is $293. I would try to save up the extra $132 but if you can't the RCBS worked good.

Re: considering RCBS pro power trimmer

Bought the RCBS a few batches ago. I have the three way cutter and it has cut out deburring. With the power trimmer I run between 20 and 50 more cases an hour, 120 to 150 an hour with the hand crank 150 to 180 an hour with power, and don't have to deburr after so that saves time also, about an hour a batch. I've never used the Giraud so I can't compare them. I bought the RCBS and trimmer heads from Midway. I think everything was on sale when I bought it but it was under $350 for the trimmer, two three way trimmer heads and shipping.

Re: considering RCBS pro power trimmer

I've used the power trimmer for a few years now; mostly for bulk reloading of my 308s. As has been said, changing calibers is a pain. The three way cutter..I don't know..I always thought it was a little on the tricky side as far as adjusting it. It's somewhat easy to take too big a bite when doing the de-burring. But then I tend to be picky when it comes to some aspects of my reloading.

Last comment is I'm not entirely sure it trims the mouth of the case as evenly as I'd like to see it do. There's a certain amount of "wobble" I guess you could call it that has me concerned. But, since I can't afford a Giraud, it works well enough.

I keep one case that is trimmed to size to setup the trimmer. Put it in and slide the cutting head up to the case. Everything is ready to go, maybe just one minor adjustment of a few 1000'ths.
