Contour Roam Mounted on an XLR Evolution

Re: Contour Roam Mounted on an XLR Evolution

Nice video! Looks like a nice set-up on the XLR. They seem like very nice stocks, but can't get past their wait-times for delivery. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Contour Roam Mounted on an XLR Evolution

Very nice. I have a lotta love for the Contour Roam camera. My only complaint is the lack of 60fps for slow motion.

Here's a vid I took with my Contour this weekend at PMG.

Re: Contour Roam Mounted on an XLR Evolution

The picture quality on the Hero2 is slightly better, but the form factor of the Contour cameras is perfect for rifle mounting.

I have a new Strikemark Mount sitting here that I am itching to try out. It showed up right before the match and I didn't have time to play with it before we rolled out.

PLEASE post a review on that when you test it. I have the Contour picatinny mount and it wobbles between the camera and mount a little bit more than I like.

Re: Contour Roam Mounted on an XLR Evolution

I will be doing a in-depth review of them both, but what I am seeing now is that the GoPro is the way to go if you are going to use your clips in a full-production (ProTune is coming) or you are going to be in a relatively static position. The GoPro is easy to configure without a PC so you can set it for the situation relatively fast. The ContourROAM is more streamlined and the start/stop slider is huge and easy to use. It's my choice for "running and gunning" type stuff.

I have several more test runs to do before my final verdict. I am also planning on some side by side image quality comparisons.

Re: Contour Roam Mounted on an XLR Evolution

LoneWolf what cameras do you have?

Last December Amazon had the ROAM for $89. ($100 off) Me and my friend both got one. There was an issue with mine long story short I ended up getting $100 off the GPS since the ROAM was out of stock.

The GPS is a $300+ model and honestly my friends ROAM takes better video. The Roam focuses on a larger wider area compared to the GPS. The only issue with the ROAM is the audio is absolute crab because the microphone is behind waterproofing.

Re: Contour Roam Mounted on an XLR Evolution

The POV Cameras are the GoPro Hero2 and ContourROAM. I have several other HD video cameras and several lenses, but they really aren't weapon or helmet mountable.

I just ordered up a PT Helmet with rails on it so it should be fun to mount one camera on either side for the next test.
