I've never converted any brass from one caliber to another, so I don't even know where to begin.

I do know that the 6XC was derived from 22-250 originally, and I found some old archived posts from other forums on the subject, but nothing complete (complete enough for me anyway).

In my mind, neck up the case mouth with a expander then mandrel die to set neck tension, and then run through a FL sizing die with the smallest amount of shoulder bump possible, then fire with a very mild load.

Is that in the ball park? Also, would I have to neck turn the cases, or would they work in a chamber cut for 6XC II?

Ozzy,
You would need an XCII chamber to use the Lapua. I have made 1000s of XC brass from Winchester 22-250, but don't mess with it any more. Simple method is to lube the cases and run into a XC die with a 6mm tapered expanded ball, pushing the shoulder back to where it will chamber with a touch of pressure to close the bolt. The better method is to buy Peterson or similar 6XC brass.
The process will make the cases look deformed because you are moving the shoulder back. There are some methods out there that will push the shoulder back in a tapered manner, thus giving you a clean appearing case, but it takes more sizing dies. Either way you fire them for final fit.
I would be interested to hear from someone that has made XC from Lapua, you might run into significant doughnut issues because of the thicker brass in the neck of the cases.

The chamber was cut with a Robert Whitley 6 XC II reamer, so that's a plus sounds like. I have a decent amount of quality brass, but nothing out there is close the any of the Lapua I've found. Figured I'd see what it looked like.

Saw a gentlemn using SRP 308 Palma brass to get 6XC brass also, but looked pretty involved.

6xc-i is based on 22-250
6xc-ii is based on a 308 case

The main difference being the base diameter of .006” or so. The 22-250 will work fine in it though. Whether neck turning depends on the brass thickness and the chamber used. You’ll have to measure that

But why not just buy xc brass? Do you really have that much 22-250 sitting around that it’s worth it to you to convert?

i guess my question is why? we have alpha srp and lrp, and norma which is perfectly acceptable brass and both on par with lapua. and you already have a 6XC ii chamber.

i know a guy using lapua creed brass to do it, but at that point why not just do a creed. you're just wasting time and energy for a name
