Gunsmithing Copper Fouling Solvent

Re: Copper Fouling Solvent

Sweet's 7.62.......... FOLLOW the directions. I did a rebarrel on a rifle that a guy used it on. He was sure if 15 minutes was good, all night would be better.
Just remember- DON'T use a copper brush to scrub it in

Re: Copper Fouling Solvent

I'm for the 50bmg copper killer also, but I feel you must nuetralize it when done. I use Kroil for this, 5-10 minutes i think is enough.
50 bmg is not a good carbon solvent though. If by some chance I use a brush, it is nylon, and never pulling it back through, just unscrew it.
If your buildup is so bad, Darrel Holland's witches brew is some good shit, but very abrasive, it will clean your barrel.

Re: Copper Fouling Solvent

Anoter vote for Wipeout + Accelerator or Patchout. Also use KG12 but prefer Wipeout. Foam the bore, load ammo or clean other guns. Patch out and look at results. Repeat if necessary. Heavy fouling, foam and let sit overnight. Patch out the next day. Great stuff!

Ding, Ding, Ding!

Let it sit for 5 minutes then brush and reapply as needed.

WARNING: DO NOT HOLD THE BOTTLE TO YOUR NOSE - YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO SMELL ANYTHING FOR WEEK AFTERWARD. you know the old thing about curiosity killed the cat?

Re: Copper Fouling Solvent

Why remove all the stubborn fouling? ... Just that it's usually not necessary to do that.

I use Butch's Bore Shine. Because it won't hurt anything. Apply with a nylon brush. Leave it for five minutes. Two dry patches.

This.
I've tried a lot of different ones but always wind up back with Butch's.
I don't have much copper fouling in good barrels from Krieger, Brux, Bartlien, etc.
I may be overly simple minded here but I think the really "stubborn" fouling is probably just filling in the tool marks on a factory barrel.
I had a 7STW custom with a DOuglas barrel once that had a streak of copper about 1/2 way down the barrel. Never got it out but the rifle kept shooting tight groups anyway.
