Cordura wrap on forestock?

A

I've seen a few photos on here recently of rifles (lots of them) with a 'wrap' of cordura around the forestock which looks to be held on with velcro. Can ayone point me in the right direction for this product please?

Like this one?

Re: Cordura wrap on forestock?

Thanks very much. Is it just the one manufacturer or are they in production elsewhere? I have a use for one and would like to get one sent over here.

Thanks

Specialized Dynamics is also making them, and for quite a bit cheaper, I have a Sotech and am picking up one of the SD's skid plates for my other rifle to compare em in 2 weeks, Id try one of the Specialized Dynamic pads as they are a bit cheaper in price and Scotts gear is top notch.

Re: Cordura wrap on forestock?

Thanks all. This has an excellent application for me for winter high seat (you call them tree stands) hunting as the stands are steel. It would be useful to have this to improve stability at times.
I'll get one ordered.

Thanks again.

Re: Cordura wrap on forestock?

Would this be Scott Milk? I have always heard good things, and I hope this is not true.
I have yet to see the SD knockoff of my design, but I must say it is rather disappointing to hear.
If there is a pic,or a link, I would like to see it.

Re: Cordura wrap on forestock?

Shibumi, please don't take this the wrong way but how could another company or person being innovative and improving/changing designs be considered a knock off?

I see numerous companies that offer similar designs of all nylon gear (including yours). Where does originality and ingenuity really begin and end, i.e. stock packs, mag carriers, weapon cases, data carriers etc?

Re: Cordura wrap on forestock?

Mattsnuked,

I completely agree with innovation, etc. However that seems to truly be what is lacking in tactical gear production lately.
Here are a few points.

1-A backpack can be made and improved in many ways, with many different direction taken. This can happen without duplicating or replicating a unique design feature. The more complex the design, the easier to deviate and make it unique.

2-The Skid Plate was conceived, developed, produced, and marketed by me, on this site, with many reputable shooters.
It is not some generic piece of basic gear such as a M-4 mag pouch. The Skid Plate is VERY unique, and extremely simple.

3-This is all alleged, as the Specialized Dynamics website does not show such a product. I have asked for a link or pics and not seen any yet.

4-The Skid Plate is PATTENT PENDING. I would expect a knockoff from China, however not from a member of this community.

Re: Cordura wrap on forestock?

If someone comes up with a different way to accomplish the same task, THAT is innovation.

If someone produces the same thing that is already on the market using similar materials, that is a copy.

I was not aware that anyone in the US was making the Skid Plate. I have only seen Phil's product. I expect that you will see one from China soon. They seem to be about a year or two behind the innovative designs.

Re: Cordura wrap on forestock?

Shibumi, thank you for your response. I agree some what that the tac nylon gear evolution is some what stagnant. BUT, the point I was also making is that there are so many variations of products now a days throwing around the words "knock off" and "patent pending" from someone who also makes products that are similar to other companies is like the pot calling the kettle black.

Think of the pissing wars that could/ have happend with other products that been intoduced "with the contribution of fellow hide members". Bottom metal, stocks, scopes, slings, etc etc.

I also would never hide the fact that Scott is a good friend, hence the diplomatic discussion. I see your way of thinking but I also think you are in a position as a seller to see mine as well.

Re: Cordura wrap on forestock?

We are not knocking off or trying to redesign Phils skid plate. My brother has a Sotech one which people thought it was my design, which it is not.

We have made our featherweight rear bags for quite sometime(actually the first to have one this light)and this is one of two items, the other a wrist strap to put dope on, with different pre-printed Avery labels.

I PM'd Phil and assured him we weren't copying any of his designs.

Re: Cordura wrap on forestock?

Scott,
Thank you for the clarification on this topic. Evidently Savage110 was mistaken, and this is a dead issue.
Appreciate the response.

Mattsnuked,

1-I do see your point as an outsider, and also know that as an outsider to gear production, you are most likely not in the loop on many of the things which can and do happen behind the scenes.

2-Many companies do, blatantly and subtly knock off or outright steal designs from competitors. This usually backfires when they are exposed and their indiscretion affects them in many other ways.

3-To the best of my knowledge, we do not duplicate common market gear. Our products are almost completely innovative and have unique design features, which make it easily identifiable by the discerning eye.

4-Calling the kettle black logic always fails, and is never beneficial. I call it the way it is, as I will have to most likely back it up face to face one day. Seeing as how I am not making any money in this venture, the only profit I make is my personal satisfaction of contributing to the sniper community.
When I make my first million, I will get back to you.

5-I see your point clearly, however I don't expect you to fully understand the subtle tides and undercurrents of the tactical nylon world. It can often not make sense, and politics can rear their silly head, complicating a simple issue.

6-99% of the people in this community I call good friends, and if we are not today, we will be tomorrow. It is never a personal issue, only a respect issue.

Thank you for the dialogue.

Phil

Re: Cordura wrap on forestock?

Shibumi, thanks for sharing some of the finer details that end users such as myself don't often get to hear or think about. The products I have handled from your company have always been top notch and look forward experiencing new ones in the future.

In matches I have not noticed a difference.

I know what I was "taught", but later this month I am going to "test" it.

Re: Cordura wrap on forestock?

I don't know about ballistics but in competitions we use 2 small pads of isomat and gaffers tape on our foreend to try and absorb movement from a hard barricade to the rifle, especially if you have a partner elsewhere on the barricade causing movment. This is much more advanced than my tape and foam technology...LOL
