Correct case length for 50 bmg

What is the correct case length for reloading of 50 bmg? Some guides say 3.910 some say 3.945.

What is it? Which one is best for a M2HB?

that would be tough to use accurately on a M2

If you can't measure it then I'd say stick with the shorter measurement and you should be alright. You can even go shorter to stay safe as most reloading manuals recommend a trim length of 3.900" or 3.890".

In looking at this product it seems you could use this to keep track of throat erosion on some guns. That would really be a plus on 50 bmg and really hot loads in other calibers.

Why would you want to load an M2 "really hot"?

The trim-to length for the .50BMG is something like 3.9". Now, I suppose, is a convenient time to mention another aspect of loading this cartridge. At present there are no SAAMI specs for
the .50BMG. What this means is that there are no *standards*. So, you may see 3.9" in one book and 3.85" in another. On an M2 I would go shorter than longer. Still have to ask why you would load an M2 "hot"

I trim mine 3.85" and use 220 grains of 5010 behind US GI ball.
That's a slightly reduced load which keeps the brass from stretching to any great degree.
