I need help..A friend of mine is re-bedding his 700 short action into a new model Choate (SP?) stock and asked me what the correct torque would be...I dont have the foggiest of ideas..Is there someone out there that knows?
Thanks

Re: Correct torque question

I read a thread a while back and it was covering torque and some guys had had success by varying torque between front and rear screws to down around 40 inlbs on one and 60 in lb range on the other.
I suspect the success was from the action having a warp from heat treat and reducing one of the torgues backed off causing less vibration.
Let us know what works best for you.

Are you going to use pillars?

Re: Correct torque question

With my Surgeon bottom metal, they say to start at 25 in/lb then tighten in 10in/lb increments switching from the front screw to the rear until you reach 65in/lb.
With pillars or a full aluminum chassis.
