How much is it going to cost to have a barrel fitted to a previously trued r700 action. I'm looking at rock, bartlein, brux, and lilja barrels and any other top of line barrel. The caliber I'm looking into is .223AI. I'm just looking for a quick estimate I know costs will vary.

Well, what do you want? super accurate rifle or factory accuracy which might be .5moa, more likely .7 and above.
You have the basis for something really accurate.

If you do buy another gun look at Savage, that way you can rebarrel it DIY.

Out of interest, how sure are you that the old one is shot out?

He prolly has the same head-cold thats been goin around.

OP, it all depends on what brand, who you have do it, and how much they need to do.
Option 1
X-brand barrel blank needs
-turned
-cut to length
-crowned
-trued
-chambered, rough and finished
-threaded
$300 average
That usually is the more spendy route.$550-600 worth of machining. The precision comes from the fact that the whole process was done for YOUR rifle. Turn around time can be quite long depending on the rest of the work load.
Option 2
X-brand pre-fit: $250-300
Already threaded
Already chambered, but needs finish chambering
-cut to length
-crown
-finish chamber for headspacing
Usually around another 200 for the smithing.
Cost may be close but a little less, less turn around time.

Re: Cost of re-barrel?

Like the above had said $250 to $300 plus the cost of the barrel. Fitted properly and you should be running under .5 with ease if you are hand loading.

I thought about doing a.223AI for my personal pracitce rifle but went straight .223 match instead. I shoot the 75 A-max and throated it long for the new AI mags. I don't regret it. 22" barrel, 2950FPS and is super accurate. I just didn't want to mess around fireforming.

Good Luck,

Re: Cost of re-barrel?

I spent 300.00 for the barrel ( Kreiger ) had the action and bolt trued, barrel chambered, theraded and break installed and that cost was 450.00. But it is a freakin tack driver. I am waiting to get it out to 600 and 1000 yards.

If you want a tack driver, invest in a good barrel. And have the action trued.

Re: Cost of re-barrel?

Another cost to account for is getting the barreled action coated; unless you're ok with a stainless barrel and a black action

You could always rock the two-tone for a while and get it coated down the road.
