I've got a LTR in .308 with threaded barrel. Moved to Minnesota where suppressors are still a "no-no". I can pick up take off barrel for @$100. What should I expect to pay to have a smith re-barrel the gun? Thanks!
Why not just leave it threaded and put a RAD brake on it or a thread protector? Unless it's shot out I'd save the money.
If it is shot out then spend the little extra and get a custom barrel. Take off factory barrels are cheap for a reason. A custom barrel runs about $280 and up and then it's usually an around $350 for a smith to true the action and install the barrel. Sometimes more, sometimes less depending on the smith. So plan on $650 for a rebarrel.
Agreed, if you are swapping out the barrel go with a custom and have it done right like at GAPrecision. But if the barrel is not shot out just leave it or brake it.

Its not as simple as just screwing it on, so i would expect to pay aprox 150$ plus your barrel (some may be higher, some less). Most likely they will have to go thru simular steps as if you purchased a barrel blank from them and started fresh.
I agree, either a brake or thread protector, that is if its a shooter.Around here, you are looking at around $250.00 to thread, chamber, crown and finish a custom barrel plus the barrel cost.If you buy a take-off barrel, there is a good chance that it will head space ok,but not so good a chance that the writing will be index correctly. Good Luck with your choice. Pete
