Couple of 6.5 Grendel build questions

Getting ready to start a 6.5 build but have a couple questions.

1. I already have some spare striped uppers for 5.56 laying around. I know the lowers work for 6.5, will the uppers?(I know I need a 6.5 carrier and bolt)

2. Magazines. I have a small stockpile laying around of 5.56 mags that I never use since my pmag stockpile overwhelms the GI mags. I've heard the GI mags can be made to work with a simple follower swap but wasn't sure if its true or not.

Standard upper works, as does the standard bolt carrier, as for mags stick with c-products with blue follower for reliable feeding. Oh get a barrel with the bolt headspaced already to it.

Yes, AR-15 upper receiver works for 6.5 G.

Maybe a few rounds of 6.5 G will work in a 5.56 mag, but not optimal. 6.5 mags are not overly expensive.

I have built a couple of the 6.5 grendels for my customers, the only thing you will need is a different bolt the carrier is the same so you save some money and for the mags the 6.8 and 6.5 mags from C-Products are the same and now they are owned by ASC below is a link to the sight.

Thanks! That saves me a good bit knowing not only will the upper but the carrier work for the 6.5! I was looking at AA barrels with the headspaced bolt. Any other companies to look into as well?

As for the mags, I have no problem getting rid of the GI 5.56 mags to buy reliable mags.

I would give Woody a call over at lothar walther and tell him you want to buy a 264 LBC the Grendel is compatible with the 264; I built one for a customer that did SUB MOA groups at 200 yards i will PM you his number..

I have two 6.5 grendels. One of them I put together myself. I bought a Saturn barrel with bolt from Midway. I already had some ar parts and used them to build the upper. I also bought some mags for it. I would use the 6.5 mags.

If you buy a 6.8 and 6.5 mag they are identical and function in both guns give it a try;And if you get the ASC mags you will pay under $20.00 for 10,17 round mags.

precision firearms has a stock pile of grendel mags..Had Mark built me a very accurate grendel with a lilja barrel and a LBC carrier..

LBC bolts work VERY well on the Grendel along with the AA bolts. You can get a 7.62X39 bolt to work, but you will need to either rework the extractor or buy a good one from AA or LBC.
