Getting ready to coat my Remington 5r mil. spec today in Duracoat. I had GA install and bed a HTG stock with the factory bottom metal still on it.
My question is.

1. Do I need to tape of the bedded area on the action so it does not affect the bedding.

2.What about the bottom metal fit after coating.

3.What about the bolt and bolt lugs.

4. I'm assuming I can put some clay in the bore to keep it out of the chamber and muzzle?

Thanks for the help

Re: Couple of Duracoat ???sss

when i did my AR with Cerakote, i just took the bolt out and stuffed the whole thing tight with paper towels. i would think just taking out the bolt and making sure nothing gets in the barrel, however your method, would be just fine.
i have no experience doing a bolt gun, but duracoat is so fine, that you should be able to spray it over the entire rifle. If ceracoat is fine enough (and duracoat is more fine) that you can spray it onto the take down pins, and inside the pin holes and still get them through on re-assembly...you should be ok.

Here's an article that I wrote in which I answer all of the basic questions you just asked.

In general, yes it is a good idea to tape off all off the bedded areas to prevent any tolerance issues, I also tape off the back of the lugs and bolt face for the same reason. As for plugging the muzzle and breach face I used a foam ear plug and playdough since it is easier to clean up than clay. Good luck with your painting project, it's really not as hard as you think.
