First, would you considered purchasing a Surgeon action with roughly 5k through it? 3800 of those are 6.5x47 and 1200 are 7saum.

2nd, with the influx of factory rifles, Bergara, CA and others, is there a reason to pay the premium price for a custom rifle if yours a casual target shooter? It seems like a lot of the factory rifles will shoot just as well as customs at this point.

I wouldn't be scared to buy an action with 5k rounds on it, to me, it just means its broken in for you. Just make sure the bolt face, bolt lugs look good, and you might have to replace the firing spring at some point.

I would buy an Impact before a Surgeon though

591 WSM I'm guessing? I wouldn't be afraid of the round count, but I would certainly give it a look over as mentioned. I have two Surgeons and they run great but they are "pre" sale manufactured so not sure regarding recent production. Lot's of dissatisfied web traffic, not sure how accurate the complaints really are. Custom verses factory really depends on you, your use, and who builds your rifle. Part of it is pure psychological and part is craftsmanship/performance so as a casual target shooter what are you looking to gain?

Not really looking to gain anything. I’ve grown accustomed to customs and I’m wondering if they continue to be worth the value.
