coverting Win 70 mag box

I have a '74 win 70 chambered in 22-250. I'm wanting to convert it to 284 Win. Is it possible to remove the spacer in the mag box cleanly or do I have to find a standard size (30'06)box?
I appreciate any and all comments. Thanks.

You can do it simply with a drill or dremel to remove the spot welds. Be sure to adjust the length of the bolt stop as well to match your new mag length.
