Well I was sitting inside my front room and I heard some growling outside. So I go to take a look and I see my dog squared off with this coyote. Both bristled up and looking like they were about to fight. So I hurried and grabbed the closest rifle I had. It happened to be a 22lr with Subsonic HP's loaded in it.

I figured that I would get more penetration and less expansion. So I aimed for the shoulder and squeezed one off. Busted his shoulder blade and he dropped. They he was still snapping at my dog so I finished him off with one to the spine in the neck.

I am waiting patiently for my 77/44 from SRT. Should be a another week or two (I hope) before its at my FFL, then another 16 weeks or so after that.

BUT I am working on it.

Re: Coyote=0 My Dog=1

My dog had an encounter with a coyote about a year ago. The coyote did not fair to well with him...... my dog had him by the throat and broke his neck. He looked like a slinky doll when he dragged him up to the house. So says my wife.

He was in his protective mode because I was gone at work and my wife was home along, and 8 months pregnant.

Good boy!

My buddy had the same situation, his ridgeback was a lot more than the coyote bargained for too.

Thats good to hear about your dog. Can't beat a good dog for watching the house while your gone. I cannot wait for ours to get alittle older, she is a mutt that my wife adopted from a military family that was shipping out. She is very protective and just needs to get bigger. She was hating it when I tied a rope around the coyote to drag it to the river for the eagles. She attacked it every time I turned my head.

Here she is when my wife is gone, she jumps down as soon as she hears her jeep pull up though.

That's a female dog for you - totally bad-ass with the meanest, scariest killer out there... but terrified of things that don't obey the laws of physics in their tiny, tiny brains.

I have a dogchild named Grace (German Shepherd, Chow, Shiba Einu, Sheltie, Papillion (LOL) and Scottish Deerhound (double LOL) who fits this description to a "T." Loving, brawny, wild, a KILLER, and filled with weird fears of mechanical objects.

Re: Coyote=0 My Dog=1

My sister heard her beagle raising hell a few weeks ago, in a development yard a 1/4 mile from the edge of Phila. She went out and called, but the dog wouldn't come. She walked out to drag it in, looked up, and a yote was sitting 15 feet away just outside the beagles electric fence. She nearly soiled herself, dragged in the beagle, and went to the window to look out. No yote. She went to the back door to close the inner, wood one and the yote had followed her and was now sitting on the sidewalk 5 feet from the door.
Those yellow eyes and big teeth scard the hell out of her. She's luky it didn't eat Honey, the beagle. I guess it was making enough noise to give the yote pause.

i think i have some video somewhere around here of my doberman and rotty piss pounding a big male, on one of our irrigated circles after the corn was harvested... i was gonna put it on youtube, but its pretty ruthless.

Re: Coyote=0 My Dog=1

why didn't I ever hear about this skinney? at the very least...let me see!

Those two have torn into more than their fair share of wild critters.
Didn't the rotty tear a rattle snake in half 10 feet from where the kids play.

Re: Coyote=0 My Dog=1

When I was in my Teens back in the 60's we had a Airdale [he was a big one, 90 lbs dry], we called him Jack. We were camping along the Platte River near Valley Nebr. About 2a.m. there was growing, fighting, cat-er-walling which woke me up. Jack came back to the tent, scratched, and bleeding with a dead Wild[Bob] Cat, chewed-up and mangled!

When I got home from the Army in 69, we were cutting firewood in the same area where I camped. The land owner had horses in the area to help keep vegetation down. While gas-sing up the chain saw, I heard Jack growling and barking and horses doing their he-hawzzz. So I put the C-saw down and started jogging towards the noise: out of the bushes busted a big Sorel and on his back there was Jack trying to bring him down...

What a tuff dog this Airdale was...WOW..
