Is it worth trying the replacement spring for the firing pin or should I send it in to have a bushing installed. Who would have quick turnaround for the bushing job, what does this normally cost.

Is there any other problems I may be missing.

Why exactly are you trying to fix it? If it is showing up due to high pressure then you should be addressing this through load development. If its just showing up because your firing pin hole is a little wider then your firing pin I dont see the reason to fix it. I have a couple rifles that tend to show cratering even with minimal loadings but as they are both quite accurate rifles I havent seen any reason to worry about it.

Some cratering can be your friend. A way to read pressure. If however you're getting cratering without ejector pin marks on the case head or the corners of the primer starting to square up then bushing the firing pin hole is the way to go. Send it to Greg Tannel.

I am not having an issue with high pressure. I don't quite understand every time someone post a question a Google search is the statement, what the hell would you post about if no one ever asked a question and you couldn't post your search crap!

As I understand from a search cratering can be caused by a number of things, like head space, weak firing pin spring and so on. I was hoping for some ideas on how to figure out just what may be the problem or if the firing pin just needs bushing.

Is this by chance a Remington? I have a couple which crater about .003-.004" high. No problems unless you're blanking the primers, just doesn't look good. Remington use to bevel the firing pin hole from 2008-2010. The explanation I've heard is it moves extra material to the point of impact to counter primer piercing. If you go to the expense of bushing it, odds are it won't shoot any better that I've noticed anyway.

My last 3 Remington actions have all cratered so bad its ridiculous. My aac that got rebarreled to a creedmoor craters so bad on factory hornady ammo the brass won't slide into shell holders because the primer dimple sticks out so far. No other signs of pressure. That ones getting bushed as its the worst out of the bunch.

OP, I think bushing is going to be your best bet on getting rid of your problem. If you try some of the other things you listed I'd be curious as to if that helps as well.
