I bought one of those mark 5 on sale but was after more magnification and illumination. Just couldn’t pass up that deal. I’m thinking of selling and buying either the mark 5 5x25 or the cronus btr. I Haven’t ever looked through Athlon but see good reviews. Only mark 5 I’ve ever looked through is the one I bought but that is unmounted. Any ideas on btr vs mark 5 would be appreciated.

I absolutely love my Cronus. Closest thing to it that I own is my ATACR. And to be honest I like the illumination/zero stop/independent zoom ring on the Cronus more than I like on the ATACR. I trust the ATACR more but have not been given a reason to not trust the Cronus yet.
From my past purchased Leupold products I feel I overpaid for what I got. I don’t feel that way about the Cronus. I also would not trade you my Cronus for your Mark 5

I’ll be completely 100% honest when I say this...
Nightforce has a proven track record. Which nobody can deny your getting a hell of an optic when you purchase one. That said 95% of shooters out there would never know the difference if you stamped NF or Athlon on the side of the Cronus. I have no plans to sell my ATACR or my Cronus.
If I could fast forward 10 years to see where the Cronus stands I may have a different opinion. But as it stands if you can’t afford the NF the Cronus is an excellent second choice
