Hello guys , I did not see a place to introduce my self so I'll do it here. I started shooting long range last year and it is a blast. The first time ( and every other ) I hit the steel at 960yds , you could not slap the grin off my face. I've been hooked ever since. Anyways , about the 6.5. I have a bunch of ar-15 lowers and want to put one together for the same distance (960 is as far as the range here goes). It seems to me that the Grendel would be ( on paper ) the best for that , for a ar-15 size weapon. Any body here have one?

Re: Curios about 6.5 Grendel

Punching paper, banging steel I'd suggest the 6mmAR or 6mmARTurbo over the 6.5 Grendel. OTM you will see 2750ish with 107/105 gr bullets. Loaded long, single load only, you can gain some additional velocity. Most of the velocities you see posted for 6mmAR/6mmARTurbo are for OAL > 2.260".

If you do go 6.5, I'd take a hard look at the 264LBC. LBC is a rebadged 6.5G that has different freebore dimension, uses 6.5G brass and dies.

Re: Curios about 6.5 Grendel

So the LBC would have maybe a shorter and tighter throat , putting the bullet closer to the lands , to help with the mag length issue ? Just curios. I'm still trying to get my .308 back to the range.

308,

Welcome to the Hide. You may want to PM/look-up fellow member/Hide vendor "Scottmilk9" He owns/runs "Specialized Dynamics" and has really nice shooting, reasonably price 6.5G uppers. He builds a lot of them for predator hunting, and I'm sure he can get you set-up with what you need.

Good luck,

-Pat

Re: Curios about 6.5 Grendel

I guess my mind has been made up for a while , I'm just looking to here anything that my burst my bubble. Although the LBC is sounding nice. I had my eye on a Satern 24" .936 SS that comes with a matching bolt. I already have most of the other parts. Just have to get a 20 moa one piece mount. Can't do anything right now anyways , just spent all my extra dough on some glass-thats another story.

Re: Curios about 6.5 Grendel

don't let anyone talk you out of a Grendel---Satern is the best barrel I own but there are others--just be sure to get a premium barrel to take advantage of the L/R potential---the bullets available are awesome--- +1 on the comments about Scott at Specialized Dynamics and Mark at Short Action Customs---both know their stuff when it comes to the Grendel round---IMO it is the finest round ever in my favorite platform--AR15

If you don't mind me mind me questioning you to much ,
What is your barrel length? twist? gr bullet ? I ask because the 123gr bullets seem to stick out the most to me.That is what I would like , but things don't always work out the way they are suppose to.Thats my biggest concern.

Re: Curios about 6.5 Grendel

I really like mine. I have a 20" I bought from Arne Brennan one of the first to help develop that round before he and Bill Alexander had a falling out. He told me that the round was originally designed for a 20" barrel but many use 18" and 16". I am cutting mine down to 16" and having it fluted to reduce weight. The ones made here that were made by Arne Brennan have a tighter throat I am told.....but I have never had a failure to feed or even a burp. Arne went for extreme accuracy. Mine has been awesome. Interesting read:

Did you paint that yourself? It looks good. What were the Grendel's designed to use , carbine or rifle extensions? or either?

Re: Curios about 6.5 Grendel

Have a look at the JP in Grendel, I've been very happy with one for several years, round and rifle. Haven't thought to try it at that distance, but out to 300 yds I've been pleased.

I don't think you would be disappointed with a cut Satern. I had a 20" HBAR, and now have an 18" mid-weight. Both perform well with 123gr bullets in 8.75" twist.
