Been looking at the LWRC M6 SPR in 5.56 for a while. However this thing called a budget has kept me from doing anything since I sold my Bushmaster four months ago.

So my purpose will be: rapid fire engagements out to 150m and "precision" engagements out to 600m on steel and prairie dogs. This is going to be my speed gun that might see competition down the road but probably just fun for now.

My criteria: Piston system, 1-2 moa, free-floated barrel, 5.56 chamber. So here's what I'm looking at:
Upper: http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=2971
Lower: Either Noveske, LMT or JP with Magpul UBR and MIAD furniture and Geissele 2-stage trigger.
Some of the other small details are JP LPK, B.A.D. ambi-selector etc.

Optic is going to be a Nightforce 1-4 in a Spuhr cantilever mount and eventually a backup sight.

I have researched other piston designs and have narrowed it down to these two. I'm not looking to reignite the DI vs. piston war. I have an M4/M203 as a duty weapon so I am aware of the trade-offs(I can deal with a little less accuracy for a lot less time cleaning). What are your opinions? Hold out for the LWRC or build a custom?

Re: Custom AR or LWRC?

Looks like you'll save about $600-$800 if you do it yourself.
LWRC-IC will offer you everything your after except the UBR. What you do get are the built in ambi mods, a NiCor plated barrel potentially extending its life, a selectable gas block, and customer support.
But there is definately a wait.

If your going for prairie dogs and steel out at 600 you might want a little power on the scope. I have a 1-4 and shoot it at 600 occasionally but when I get there I normally wish I had a little more power. Just a thought

Get the SPR upper from Northwest Tactical, etc. and build a lower to your specs...although a complete SPR might be cheaper initially if you want to start shooting right away. Order it complete and Northwest and they can upgrade your trigger before shipping at a savings of about $80. I've multigunned with my SPR and it works great. Get one of the newer 1-6 optics for reaching out there better.

My SPR in Patriot Brown, with it's LaRue lower.
