Ok, I've searched and read everything I can find on the Rem 700 custom footprint actions. Think I've got it down to these 3 (open to other suggestions in their price range $950ish). Already have a stock set up for the 700 short action, just need action that will drop in and barrel and trigger. Will be used as a prone 600 yd (maybe an occasional 1K) iron site match rifle. May also scope for an occasional 1K bench fired match. Probably be a 260 or 6br or dasher. Need input either pro or con on these 3 actions. Any reason to pick one over another or reason to not pick one of these. In other words I can't decide which to get. Delivery times are almost the same last time I checked. Oh yea most likely will be a single shot since everything it will be used for is fired single shot. Keep it to 700 footprint actions only. Thanks

Call Greg at Buholes.com He keeps the Stiller and Defiance in stock and will tell you what you need to know

I think it's difficult to pick a custom action because you can't really go down to the store and check them out in person to compare them, so you have to look for pictures and reviews of different ones online. I don't have first hand experience with all 3 of those, but I do with the Pierce. The Pierce seem to be well made, straight etc. They have good cam timing and extraction. The single shot version with the solid floor is quite stable. Even with a 32" heavy F-class barrel hanging on it there doesn't seem to be any issue or zero shift when disassembling or swapping barrels. There are a couple unique things about them that may factor into your decision: The lug is pinned. The bolt stop/release is on the side. The barrel is 18tpi (remington is 16), the scope bases are 8-40 (remington is 6-48), and the rear base is round and the same as the front (remington is shortened with a belt sander), and all threaded holes are thread milled and blind (most others I've seen are tapped through). Personally I like the blind holes, but it means you have to time all the screws to make sure they are under tension before they bottom out. This is extra work for a gunsmith in a production mode, but IMHO it makes for a cleaner finished product. I also like that cleaning solvent won't drain through the front action screw and make a mess of things. When I got mine they were the best price/feature combination I could find, but any of them would probably work fine. Maybe others will post their experiences with the defiance/stiller. Here is my build with a few pictures:

I wonder if we could maintain an action thread to answer all these questions. This link has a bunch of them but it's a little incomplete and out of date now:
