One of the things that attracts me to a Savage rifle is the ability to change barrels/calibers/etc. without needing a gunsmith. I would like to get a custom action and aftermarket barrel that affords the same approach of not having to have a gun smith to do my barrels for me. Is there a custom action that fits the bill?

On another note-- savage makes a "target" action that might fit what you are looking for, however you are not going to get custom build results without a gunsmith.

Welcome to the SH. Pac Nor barrels will fit a Savage style nut to a Remington action trued by them so that you can order barrels pre-chambered for installation. So, somewhat "custom".

@ ddd oo7 - I've seen the 'target action' by savage but it was still considered a mass production unit from what I understand. Also, not sure how I managed to get this in the suppressor section...that really makes me look like a Newbie but I'm definitely now new to forums....just this one! Any mods up for relocating it?
@ sgtsmmiii - that is interesting! I'm going to call them up and see what else they can do. Money and time really isn't a huge issue when dealing with a gun smiths; just the wait time. Figured I would do some research to see what I can come up with. Thanks!

Shilen makes an action that has a Rem. 700 footprint but has a barrel nut and takes Savage style barrels. The action itself is made by Stiller.

McRee offer a Remington 700 kit that is built to be a quick change barrel like the Savage.
