I have an idea in my head for a rifle thaf does not exist. Thinking about having it built (or customizing a rack-grade rifle). How does this sound as a general purpose bolt gun:
Short action caliber
18-20" fluted barrel (in a contour that would make it similar weight to a 22" featherweight)
Ultralight stock, bedded
??? Trigger (need to research; for now I like the stock trigger on my M70)
For consistency's sake, I'd go with a model 70 action.
I'm really leaning toward an 18" barrel rather than 20". My prelim research indicates that 18" is a good length for .308 (my most likely caliber of choice).
I'd like to keep total cost of the rifle itself under $2000 (with $1500-1700 being the ideal cost range).
Does this seem realistic? Does the build make senss as a GP build?
