I'm looking to take 6" off a tikka superlite and thread the barrel for a suppressor. is this possible with the fluting already in the barrel? can it be threaded and a permanent thread adapter be added for strength and a solid shoulder for the suppressor?

Judging from the photos on Tikka's site, if you take 6" off you'll be in the fluted area. I'm not sure how you would permanently affix a thread adapter, and if its only purpose was to prove more of a shoulder and strength, I don't think you'd gain much of either.

I'd just rebarrel with the profile, length and threading you want. Pencil barrels (let alone fluted ones) are for optimal weight savings. They don't leave room for anything else.

i was worried about that. i got a good deal on a new in box suprelite and couldn't pass it up. seems like it would be cost prohibitive to rebarrel. i love the tikka platform but the barrett fieldcraft comes with everything i need (lite weight, 18"bbl, threaded, cerakoted, etc).

Is your goal to have a certain overall length with your suppressor? What caliber is your Tikka?

It would depend on the depth of the fluting, barrel OD, groove diameter, and thread specs....
If there's adequate barrel wall thickness once the tenon is turned (and fluting is cut away), why not?

It would look odd having the fluting run right into the muzzle device but aside from that no reason it couldn't be done if the numbers allow.

Just send the thing to LRI for a rebarrel and Cerakote. You'll still be WAY under what a Fieldcraft would cost. McGowan, for example, can produce whatever Tikka barrel you want and with their Black Friday sale (if it is what it was last year) it should cost about $300 or so.

What caliber?
What is the diameter of the barrel at the location you want to chop it at?

It likely can be safely threaded 1/2x28 if it is less than a 7mm bore.

Also, the fluting likely won't matter in this scenario. It may look odd to have the flutes go all the way to the thread shoulder, but it should work fine.

it's a 6.5cm. i was looking to go 1/2x28 to match my 7mag. i'm not overly concerned about the aesthetics but to want a shorter rifle to add a nearly 9" harvester. this will be a short to med range light weight gun. probably put a 12oz 2-7 or 3-9 power burris/leupold to keep weight down.

If the barrel is .600" or larger at the chop point then you are golden. Any competent Smith can cut, crown, and thread it 1/2x28. Prices range from $75 to $150. Way cheaper than a rebarrel and you'll like the final product very much. A Tikka super light setup like that would be an awesome hunting rig.

another option could be to sell this: (pic isn't there but it looks good with the green stock and blued fluting)

and buy this one: (cerakoted stock and barrel w/o fluting)

i'll need to measure but i believe the fluting cuts below the .600" diameter.

Again, it's gonna depend on the barrel OD and depth of the fluting. Hopefully there's something close to .200 above the groove diameter of .264 (everyone has their own opinion of minimum barrel wall thickness) after threads are cut.

Minor diameter of 1/2-28, 3A is .457; many (myself included) would say that's adequate as it gets you just shy of the .200.

As long as diameter at the cut point is .500 + double depth of the flutes, should be gtg. I don't think it's a "gimme" though.
I remember threading a customers T3x for a 1/2" brake- at the muzzle, no cutoff- and it was really tight. By the time you add double depth of fluting (no idea how deep Tikka goes on them) it may be a no-go.
