I've got a 5R I'm going to have cut down from 24" and threaded for a suppressor adapter. I think the twist is 1/11.25. Was thinking either 20" or 18". Any opinions on which would be better for accuracy.. I'm shoot 178 amax if that helps.

Thanks

Re: Cut Barrel Length

Accuracy is not really the issue but velocity is.....there are many on here with short barrel rifles that will shoot bugholes but will lose a bit in velocity to a longer barrel. this is very caliber and powder dependent on just how much you will lose per inch cut off.

Re: Cut Barrel Length

Of your two choices, I'd go with 20"....22" is my personal preference.

On a factory Rem Varmint barrel, I cut it from 26 to 22 and lost about 17 fps/inch I cut off...

Re: Cut Barrel Length

I would do some research and see what typical MV's for said barrel lengths. Then decide the velocity range you are looking for.
If compactness is more important than a specific MV, then go with the length you desire.
Accuracy with shorter/different lengths is a misnomer as already mentioned.
A number of my barrels really like the A-Max.
