Cutting a chrome lined barrel

Are there any possible negative effects to cutting and threading a finished chrome lined barrel? I thought i remember reading somewhere there is a possibility of chipping the chrome lining.

I cut a crome lined 20" barrel down to 16.5" drilled out the gasport, recrowned it, and threaded it for a muzzle brake. No ill effects.

There are plenty of threads where folks mention cutting chrome lined barrels, but I couldn’t find anything that specifically addresses potential downsides if any. The reason I don’t want to rebarrel is because nobody makes what I want.

You are correct. The first MK18 barrels were cut down M4 barrels (14.5”).
