Gunsmithing Cutting a nitrided barrel?

Potentially a stupid question...

Can one cut and recrown/thread a barrel that has received a nitride treatment?

I had to use carbide tooling to cut through the hardened surface.
But after that, no problem.

Once you get through the surface it's machining as usual.

Tungsten carbide inserts will work fine for threading and crowning. I had a well drilled through 200 feet of solid granite using a WC bit. The hard part would be messing with the chamber because most chamber reamers are HSS.

Yep. I had LongRifles whack 4" off the AAC 260 barrel and recrown it before screwing it onto my action. Chad acted as if it was no big deal to do when I called him about it.
