Gunsmithing Cutting Barrel

Re: Cutting Barrel

I dont see how cutting off a chunk of barrel will help accuracy unless you have a shitty crown and want to cut it back a tad and re-crown it.

Re: Cutting Barrel

barrels can be cut to improve accuracy IF:
1)bad crown
2)the muzzle end of barrel is larger than bore
3)bad barrel harmonics....for load you`re using/trying to use.
if crown is good and bore is o.k... try a tuner.
OMHO.... mileage may vary

Re: Cutting Barrel

In general, I seriously doubt the wisdom of modifying a barrel, other than dressing up a crown.

I think that by comparison, it's better to have another barrel made to the desired specs than to alter an existing one. The basic concept of spending twice to get one result is just illogical, IMHO. I am mindful of the adage about making a sow's ear from a silk purse.
