Well, I though it would be a 452 American, but in my endless and frustrating search for discontinued CZs I was lucky enough to find a 453 Varmint- I get old school CZ accuracy, two action screws, and the heavy barrel! I never dreamed I would find one of these rifle's new in stock. The seller almost hung up on me because I kept asking, "Are you sure its a 453 in 22LR?"

I digress...

I am unsure which direction to go for mounting. I don't have a lot of 'precision' shooting experience with .22s. I would like to be able to dial out to 200 yards. The scope I am considering is the Leupold Mark AR Mod 1, which is spec'd as hang 67 MOA elevation.

Plan 1:
Use the 11mm dovetail with either Warne 7.3/22 rings or Talley 100000 series rings, but with this setup will the scope have enough elevation to get me to 200 yards?

Plan 2:
Buy a DIP 25 MOA mount and have a choice of quality picatinny rings.

Not sure which way to go. I am attracted to the simplicity of just using the CZ dovetail and rings, but I'm thinking elevation will be limited. Going with DIP gives me more ring choices, but also increases overall cost.

Advice?

Wolf, cant speak on plan #1,never used that set up

but plan#2 as what all cz, savage, annie, shoot, at our TSC match
we shoot from 56, 110,156,211 yards an with the 25moa base you want have a problem,
getting from 50 to 225 yards.
hey a cz453 i think has a set trigger, if your not happy with it pm me i will buy trigger LOL
but at 300yrd you need some where around 41in from 50 yrd zero

Option #2. You'll have the option to put the scope and rings on lots of other stuff if you ever decide to change it up.

Just don't do like I did and get a EGW 20moa rail because DIP was out of stock. The EGW has a big stupid lift kit built in. My scope is still a mile too high in Seekins low rings.

Try the heavy duty CZ rings if you are going to stick to one scope. They have served me well. Shown on the big brother to yours 453 17hmr. (It's for sale too)

Thanks for the feedback guys. I guess I need to figure out if my scope will have enough internal elevation, left after zeroing to make it to 200yards without help.

Having a picatinny setup is attractive, but more expensive and I'm seeing a lack of 1" ring options. 30mm being the more popular as we all know.

If you want some adjustment capability in your scope mounting I'd go with a DIP 25MOA base and run Burris Signature Zee 1" rings. You can use a combination of the 0, +/- .010, or +/- .020 inserts in the scope rings to fine tune the amount of cant to get maximum usable elevation travel out of the scope.

The other option is Cameron @ Murphy Precision will make a picatinny base in whatever cant you desire. I had him make a 50MOA base for my .22LR Sako Quad, left my SWFA 5-20HD scope with 2 mils down and 30.5 mils up from a 50Y zero.

Frustrating!

It seems the DPS base is impossible to get in Canada without paying large import fees.

Talley's are easy to find, but when I called them to figure out what height rings I would need, I received mixed information. I thought I would need the Rimfire Specialty Rings (22CZRH or 22CZRL), but they claim I should go with the 10000# series. I asked the difference and they said it was for 3/8" dovetails. My understanding is the Varmint has 11mm dovetail (I don't have it in hand yet). I mentioned this, but the rep said no, it's the 3/8". I wasn't going to argue with the guy, but now I have no idea what to order.

Those of you not using a modified rail, what rings are you using?

If your cz 453 is the 22lr variant it will have the 11mm dovetail, the 3/8 is on the 17hmr 452/3.

i went witht the dip 25 moa base and seekins precision low rings. i have a swfa ss 10x mounted and have successfully shot out ot 315 yards with no problem.

Wolf, what about Burris rings, can you get them in canada
if so look at posi insert rings, a bud of mine, use them with + 20, an-20 inserts an has no problem out to 250yrd
+20moa under scope in rear, -20 moa under scope in front
