As usual I can't make up my mind. Looking for something to shoot 50-100-200 yds just to increase my wind reading abilities and not break the bank at the same time. Been looking at a Kidd supergrade for a long time and they look like they are pretty accurate. Shot a friend's 40x last weekend with some old cheap Eley ammo (cheap hell)-dang thing just shot into one hole no matter how hard I tried to mess up. And then here comes CZ with a 455 in a Manners stock--anybody here got any idea how accurate these things are--how good are the triggers--etc. I really don't need benchrest accuracy and I can probably get a really nice 40x that's already bedded in a Mcmillam br stock with a jewel trigger and barrel tuner for abt the cost of the Kidd---but something keeps bringing me back to the CZ--I just don't have much info on it. Anybody got any answers-Thanks--Dean

Re: cz455--kidd or rem 40x

If you can put up with the single shot nature of the 40x, then that's the direction I would go 10 times out of 10. I'm not a fan of the 10/22 but Kidd makes a phenomenal product. As far as the 455 goes, they are getting some aftermarket support that the 452/453 did not. I'm glad to see that, but I wouldn't put one into a Manners. I would rather buy an Anschutz for the trigger, match barrel, and reputation for accuracy and have that put into a Manners if you're dead set on having a Manners stock. The CZ triggers usually need a little bit of work to make them sing, but Anschutz has some of the best triggers in the world on their rifles. The CZ just doesn't compare, in my opinion. And they shouldn't, considering Anschutz rifles are far more expensive. My vote goes to the 40x or if you've considered an Anschutz then that gets top pick from me. All that being said, there's nothing wrong with the 455, and a lot of guys love them. I would still take a bone stock 40x over a 455 in a Manners any day. This is just MY opinion but, I don't feel like you can go wrong either way.

Re: cz455--kidd or rem 40x

CZ makes a very good rifle for the money. Barrel swaps are very easy on the 455 model and Lilja has a drop in replacement available for them. They're handsome rifles and all, but still nothing compared to a 40x or an Annie. A great place to find info on the CZ's is over at Rimfire Central. They have a subforum dedicated to CZ's and it happens to be their busiest section of the entire website. A great source for anything CZ.

Re: cz455--kidd or rem 40x

Thanks--been adding up the cost of just upgrading the 10/22 I have with Kidd parts--barrel-trigger-bolt and getting a real stock for it. Starts out cheaper than buying the 40x that's just down the road but as we all know starting and finishing aint always the same thing--thanks.

Re: cz455--kidd or rem 40x

I would go CZ.

You could grab a 452 Varmint, or 455 if you want the switch barrel option. Glass bed the action, smooth the action if it needs it and add a yodave trigger kit for another $15 and it will shoot as well or better than most $1k dressed up 10-22s.
20 MOA rail from DIP if you want.
That's a $500 trainer. If you want to upgrade the stock you can do that too, but theres nothing wrong with the factory walnut. I have a Manners on the way for my trainer which brings up the price, but it shoots great as it is.

I have three 452s and love them, very accurate guns.

40x is nice, but mehh. who wants a single shot 22, that would get old quick. And, they start used around the $1k mark.

Re: cz455--kidd or rem 40x

Unless you want an absolute duplicate of your main rifle I think the 40x is old news personally. I think you will be hard pressed if that 455 varmint in stock form doesn't shoot as well or better then a done up 40x. Plus single shot just sucks, at least with my type of shooting. Plus timney has a trigger replacement for the cz 455 now. Might not be as good as the anschultz but its a hell of a lot cheaper.

Re: cz455--kidd or rem 40x

I have a CZ 452, Dip rail, and $20 youdave kit and while no Annie or 40x its close enough to be competaive without breaking the bank. I plan on getting the new 455 and replacing the barrel with a Leja but that will put it into Annie territory cost-wise and being untested I dont know it it will be cost effective. That being said Im going to take a chance. I dont consider the 40x an alternative due to its age, no longer in production, and single shot only capability. Annie's are nice but go to rimfirecentral and look at thier CZ section. rarely does anyone complain about CZ's.

LOL!! Bring it. I guess I missed the list of stock CZ(s) in the rimfire finals.

To the OP, its really your call. CZ has done a lot of great things recently. If you like semi, then the KIDD is obviously your choice. If you want bolt then the price tag to wallet ratio is your deciding factor.

As was pointed out, a 40X is a single shot (unless you find a Sporter - read $$$$$) but is highly accurate. Of course once Black Ops gets their repeater conversion set, then this is no longer a factor. The 40X was/is one of the most accurate shooters ever built and still takes top spots in National and World competition.

But, your list of requirements did NOT include benchrest accuracy... so the CZ is right in your wheelhouse. Very good accuracy, repeater and aftermarket support on the rise.

Re: cz455--kidd or rem 40x

Thanks for the replies--went ahead with the building up the 10/22 that I already have.--Ordered 20 inch barrel and two stage triger set to 8 oz. from Kidd. Went ahead and ordered B/C odysessy stock from Stockys so I would be able to extend the lop and have an adjustable cheekpiece as I am pretty long in the arms and it seems like every stock I get behind is too short. May even get a buddy of mine to thread the barrel and reciever and get away from from the slip fit. I can already tell the cz or the 40x might have been cheaper before this is finished but then I'd miss out on a lot of the fun of getting it all together--thanks again--Dean

True but a 40x unless your luck and get one at CMP goes for around and grand same thing with Annie's. A stock CZ 455 with bull barrel goes for around 450USD

For the money my basically stock 452 shoots as good as my friends super upgraded 10/22 and for 1/2 the cost.

Re: cz455--kidd or rem 40x

Got the gun all assembled this morning--Kidd 20 inch match barrel-Kidd 2 stage trigger-- B+C Odyssey stock. First thing I noticed was the stock has a section in the barrel channel at the muzzle end that is built up and touches the barrel. The barrel is free floated everywhere else. I started to sand this section down but decided to just shoot it first. Strapped on a Leupold 6.5-20 and went shootin..Ran some subsonic wallyworld stuff thru it at 50 yds---shot pretty well. Moved on to some CCI minmag--5 shots per group would usually have 3 shots touching--the other 2 wouldn't be far out. Went on to some Eley black box--1st 4 shots went in the same hole but I got so happy I shot 1/4 inch low with the last shot. Needless to say I'm very pleased with this setup so far--the Kidd 2 stage trigger is pretty sweet. I'm gonna try some more ammo and maybe sand the barrel channel where it touches the barrel and see what happens.
