My friend Lee with his ram we took in 1991. 10 rams had us pinned down for 4 hours in a rock slide we tried to cross in the fog...the fog lifted when we were in the middle of it! Backtracked our way out and came in from above. His shot was less than 100 yards for his lightweight Remington .270. Ram was 10 years old.

My best and favorite ram...climbed 6500 vertical feet up from the South Nahanni River to get to where the rams were. Until then this place had never been hunted....ever!!

Thanks, but, you'll have to tell him yourself. He's now officialy a Montana resident.

Re: Dall Ram...40"+

He's in Bozeman and really enjoying the people. Kind of the way things used to be here 30 years ago. Called couple of weeks ago to tell me he hooked a nice Brown over in the Bridger range. I'm looking forward to visiting.

Re: Dall Ram...40"+

Thats cool! Bozeman is where I grew up back in the 60s and 70s. It got a little crowded for me and I moved to eastern Montana 16 years ago.....still only 5 or 6 hours from the mountains.

...ya, me too. Never hunted much but deer and antelope but man that is some beautiful country and animals. Lived to hunt no matter the cold or distance when I was younger and have a few trophies to show for it but some of the best trophies are the memories of the people and places you hunted together.

If I wasn't so busy saving for retirement, I would book a hunt or two.

That is an incredible picture!

Rams doing battle above the Yellowstone River just inside of Yellowstone Park.....early December.

Greg, thanks! If a guy takes care of himself a lot can be done after retirement!

Re: Dall Ram...40"+

PGS, When I grow up I want to be like you! Those pics are amazing to say the least. Knowing next to nothing about hunting like that, I can only imagine what you and your pards endured to harvest those animals. Hopefully some day I'll be able to go on a couple of hunts like that. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Jason

Al Klassen posing with 3 rams and a mountain goat....the Ragged Range in the background as seen from Glacier Lake. There are four mountains in this range that are famous technical climbs, Mount Harrison Smith, Mount Sir James Macbrien, Mount Ida and Mount Sidney Dobson. "Smith" is ranked number 12 in the world in difficulty. It has a 3000 foot vertical granite headwall. I took this picture from the door of my backpack tent.

Back in camp with two good rams, backstraps on the fire...doesnt get too much better than that!!

Greg, Electric Peak is just a bit southwest of the north entrance to Yellowstone Park near Gardner, Montana. It's 10,992 ft.

NWTs Ragged Range in the background, taken from the head of Mitchell Creek. We got into the rams on day two and spent the remainder of the hunt looking for caribou, fishing and exploring.

Fishing for arctic grayling with a pole made out of a willow stick. We had a little spool of line, a few splitshot and a couple of mepps spiners. We pulled grayling out of that hole one after another....man they were good eating!!

Re: Dall Ram...40"+

We were usually only 10 to 15 miles from the float plane lake/river drop off and it was almost always downhill getting back so it was'nt too tough of a go getting back with the meat, horns and cape. We always tried to go as light as possible of course. Our packs starting out were 45 to 50lbs. We were always careful where we shot caribou not wanting to pack several extra big meat loads very far...we never shot caribou before we had our rams. We let some real whoppers go.
